Aluminum Seals are now available for those who cannot use the lead seals due to regulatory requirements! Whether you’re in California or another location that doesn’t allow lead seals, you now have a great alternative option. Aluminum Seals are resistant to higher temperatures than lead seals and are more resistant to chemicals than plastic seals.
BP-1469 Lead Meter Seal Aluminum Bulldog Seal Press Crimping Tool
Aluminum Seals are available in two sizes including 5/16” (8mm) or 1/2” (12mm). The standard Aluminum and Wire Seals consist of a 12mm aluminum seal and 3-ply galvanized steel available in lengths of 10” 14”, or 18”. Choose 30 gauge or 26 gauge wire. Used for water and gas meters, connections, boxes, controls, valves, etc. Lead / Aluminum and Wire Meter Seals are effective only when properly sealed. Use of BP-1469 Seal Press Crimping Tool assures correct sealing.
Important Note: When using aluminum seals, use Blank Dies (BP-1469D Blank) or must request BP-1469DA Raised Letter Imprinted Dies, sold separately. Security seals are a one-time use item. These seals must be properly secured using required seal press crimping tool (Part # BP-1469). When properly used, security seals offer a tamper proof seal as there is no way to remove the seal other than cutting it. The raised imprinted dies, sold separately can be stamped with up to 3 characters. These characters will create further security by providing valuable information such as who created the seal and when it was sealed. SVI’s seals are often used for gas pump meters as many units must be verified and securely sealed each year. Additional dies can be purchased and can be customized for fee! Slip wire into open side on the head and crimp shut to create seal.

SVI has supported the most well-known petroleum equipment companies with a wide array of products since 1977. These petroleum equipment companies are involved in sales, service, and installation of industry-leading products to meet all fueling equipment and service needs. Most professional petroleum equipment companies are responsive 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to make sure fueling equipment is running smooth and functioning properly.
Their services include the annual calibration of fuel pumps/meters for accuracy, which is required by law, and is certified by State and Local weights and measures officials. When performing or verifying the calibration on these four stroke piston meters for flow accuracy, each meter is then closed and sealed up with a special security seal. This seal typically indicates the company, or technician, who performed the work, along with a date or year code. These meters, or security seals, ensure to inspectors that no one has tampered with, or changed any of the previously verified calibration settings. Common fuel pumps found in service today that require calibration would include Gilbarco, Wayne, Bennett, Tokheim, Southwest and others.
Fuel pump meter calibration settings are performed right at the pumps by petroleum equipment service technicians, for the fueling station operators on an annual basis. Virtually everyone has pulled into a gas station to fuel up and at one point or another encountered a pump island cordoned off by a petroleum equipment company. This means either a pump is broken down and being serviced, or simply just being checked for calibration accuracy.
All legal for trade dispensing and measuring equipment must be checked and verified each year for accuracy. It is the responsibility of fueling facility operators to verify their pumping equipment complies and ensure this activity is carried out routinely year after year. State and Local entities will verify this and indicate compliance through the application of a certification decal found visible on fuel pumps.
Why is it so important to verify fuel pump calibration accuracy? Simply stated: North America is steeped in rich history of petroliana and when visible sight gas pumps were obsoleted in favor of changing technology and fast flowing sightless transfer fuel pumps accusations of short-changing started to occur. Claims of fraud at the pump is rare, but it does happen. Many may remember hearing about the retail fueling company in California that altered the chips in their pumps to provide customers 7% to 25% less fuel in their tanks than that stated on the pump. This cheated consumers out of nearly $1 million by charging them for more fuel than what was pumped in their tanks. According to The US Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) when fuel prices rise so do consumer suspicions of fraudulent activities with respect to the accuracy of gasoline pumps. While it may be prudent to investigate complaints, it is also prudent to have certification and verification practices in place to help maintain consumer confidence and deter potential fuel pump manipulation.
Through supporting petroleum equipment distributors with the supplies to properly and securely seal fuel pumps and metering equipment SVI plays a small but important role every time cars, trucks and buses are fueled.
